I am excited to share my latest lesson plan for the Cambridge DELTA course. This lesson plan was developed for my 3rd evaluation (the LSA3), and it adopts the lexical approach to teaching vocabulary…and it passed!
Why I Wrote the Lesson Plan
The DELTA course is a rigorous and challenging program, and I wanted to create a lesson plan that could be used to help students succeed in this course. I developed this lesson plan after some advice from my tutor and reading up on the lexical approach. You can check out my other lesson plans here.
Passing the Evaluation
Passing the evaluation was a significant accomplishment for me, and it showed that my lesson plan was effective and could be used in a classroom setting. I received positive feedback:
This was a very useful lesson for the students, in which they had their awareness raised of the meaning and form of a range of collocations, and some opportunity to apply them in the context of producing a leaflet about a town or city they know. A range of effective teaching techniques were displayed, and the lesson clearly meets the Pass standard.
The Lexical Approach
The lexical approach is a teaching method that emphasizes the importance of teaching vocabulary in context. This approach recognizes that vocabulary is not just a list of words to be memorized, but rather a set of words that are used in specific situations. In the lexical approach, students learn vocabulary through exposure to authentic language use and by noticing how words are used in context.
The Lesson Plan
My lesson plan incorporates the lexical approach by using language to describe places. Specifically, the lesson plan uses my hometown of Bath as a model for teaching vocabulary related to places. The text provides a detailed description of Bath, which uses language to describe places. It can become useful language for students to use to describe their own towns. This lesson plan also utilises wordwall. If you haven’t used that platform yet, then check out my tutorial right here.
Using My Hometown of Bath
Bath is a beautiful city in the southwest of England, known for its stunning Georgian architecture and Roman Baths. The city is a popular tourist destination, and it also where I’m from!
Benefits of Using the Lesson Plan
The lesson plan is free to use and can be downloaded from my website.
The stage plan and all other class materials are also available for download. By using this lesson plan, teachers can help their students to improve their vocabulary, practice their language skills, and learn about a new place. This lesson plan is ideal for intermediate to advanced level students, and it can be adapted for use in a variety of classroom settings.
